About us
MAFEC is a structural and geotechnical engineering consultant based in Cairo, working for public and private clients across the Middle East and Africa. We started in Egypt in 1991. Today we have projects in nine countries.
Our record includes towers, universities, hospitals and whole residential districts. We are proud of what these projects give the communities around them.
Our founder, Prof. Dr. Eng. Mohamed Abdel-Motaal, teaches in the Structural Engineering Department at Ain Shams University. His PhD studied how soil and structure interact during earthquakes, and he has led national and international projects throughout his career.
Since 1991 we have built a strong position in Egypt and taken our work to the UAE, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Libya, Yemen, Cameroon, Mozambique and Tanzania.

Founder and Managing Director
Prof. Mohamed Abdelmotaal founded MAFEC and is its managing director. Government, private and scientific bodies have recognised his work with many honorary certificates and awards.
His PhD (1999) is in soil-structure interaction under seismic loading. Through MAFEC he has led national and international projects across the Middle East and North Africa.
At Ain Shams University he directed the Soil Mechanics and Foundation Design Consulting Unit from 2012 to 2016, restructuring it into a more productive and profitable unit.
He served on the committee for the Egyptian Code of Soil Mechanics and Foundation Design and Execution, where he added major design concepts to the soil dynamics section.
He is a member of the International Geotechnical Society, takes part in conferences in Egypt and abroad, and keeps an active research record.

Research and development
Research and development creates new knowledge, or improves the products, processes and services that already exist.
We help with and take part in research in geotechnical and structural engineering. We count it as part of our duty to the community.
- 01
Working with universities
We collaborate with universities and research teams on studies in soil mechanics, foundations and structures.
- 02
Knowledge from site
We share what our projects teach us, so research stays close to how buildings are actually designed and built.
- 03
Postgraduate study
We support our engineers through MSc and PhD study, and give their research a place in our work.
